Advocating for someone who needs care is a chance to make a profound difference in that person’s life. Making the decision to be the primary caregiver for a loved one is an opportunity for creating a renewed and revised relationship. Discovering ways to add meaning and purpose to someone’s days at the end of their life can be a joy to you both.
Shea Companions is here to provide insight, encouragement, and ideas to improve care for your loved one and for you. We are here to help you.
Shea Companions was founded by Kim Shea who was a caregiver for her best friend for four and a half years. When he died, she went back to school and earned her Master’s degree in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations. Before graduation she began working as an activity coordinator at a skilled nursing facility. She did all of these jobs while raising a family and, so, understands the challenges that come with parenting while juggling everything else. These life experiences and her education taught Kim about patients’ and their families’ needs and desires. It gave her a deep respect for caregiving and the dedication needed to do the job properly.
Shea Companions is devoted to encouraging caregivers to provide the best possible physical and emotional care. Through writing and videos, Kim wishes to inspire people to approach caregiving with a renewed sense of purpose and reverence for the honor that it is to care for someone.
